1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Email address when you request to join the CivicBuddy early-access and product-update list.
- City or municipality if you choose to provide it. This is optional and helps us understand where people are interested in CivicBuddy.
- Information you send us directly if you contact us.
Basic website usage information
We use Netlify Web Analytics to understand aggregate activity on the website, such as page views, popular pages, referral sources, and broad location information reported by Netlify.
2. How we use information
- manage the CivicBuddy early-access and product-update list;
- confirm that subscribers want to receive CivicBuddy emails;
- understand which municipalities show interest in CivicBuddy;
- measure interest in the site and different outreach efforts;
- improve CivicBuddy, its website, messaging, and launch plans;
- respond to inquiries; and
- protect the website and address misuse or technical problems.
We do not sell the personal information you provide through this website.
3. Brevo and email signup
CivicBuddy uses double opt-in. Submitting the signup form does not complete your subscription. Brevo sends a confirmation email, and you are added to the subscriber list only after you confirm.
Brevo is used to manage the early-access contact list and deliver confirmation and product-update emails. Your email address and, if provided, your municipality are sent to Brevo for these purposes.
You can unsubscribe from product-update emails at any time using the unsubscribe mechanism in those messages.
4. Netlify Web Analytics
We use Netlify Web Analytics for website measurement. Netlify states that Web Analytics is derived from its CDN server logs, uses no client-side analytics code, and tracks site activity anonymously without cookies or personally identifying information.
Because we use Netlify Web Analytics rather than a browser-based analytics tracker, CivicBuddy does not place an analytics cookie or require an analytics-consent banner for this measurement.
We may use page views of the signup confirmation pages as aggregate funnel measures—for example, how many visitors requested a signup and how many completed double opt-in.
5. Service providers
For the current early-access website, key service providers are:
- Brevo — email signup, contact-list management, double opt-in, and email delivery.
- Netlify — website hosting, the serverless function that securely submits signup data to Brevo, and Web Analytics.
These providers process information according to their own terms and privacy practices and may process data outside your province or country.
6. How long we keep information
We keep subscriber information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the early-access/product-update list, meet legal or operational requirements, or until you unsubscribe or request deletion where applicable. Service-provider retention may also depend on the settings configured in Brevo and Netlify.
7. Your choices and privacy rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to ask about, access, correct, or request deletion of personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw consent subject to legal limitations.
- Do not complete the double-opt-in confirmation if you do not want to join the list.
- Unsubscribe from product-update emails at any time.
- Contact us with a privacy question or request.
8. Security
The Brevo API key is kept server-side in Netlify environment variables and is not exposed in the website's browser code. We also use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information, although no transmission or storage method can be guaranteed completely secure.
9. Children
This early-access website is intended for a general audience and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as CivicBuddy develops or our service providers and practices change. The “Last updated” date shows when this version was published.
